CR Metal Gone Green! - Tue, August 26 2008

Over the years, CR has made a conscious effort to recycle and reduce the impact our company has on the environment. As with others in the manufacturing world, we use a range of resources to produce our in-demand products. Everything from chemicals to packaging are required day-to-day, and most of these items can be re-used in some way. We have taken steps to make it easier on the world around us...we value our earth and do our best to treat it with respect.

Here are a few of the current initiatives at CR:

1. We have a new dedicated dumpster for cardboard only. All of this matter gets recycled instead of filling up the landfills. We have been recycling office paper for years now. This has diverted about 40% of our waste stream.

2. We re-use our washer chemicals until they cannot be used again, but even then we do not flush our chemicals down the drain but evaporate them when they can no longer be used. We also properly dispose of and recycle all of our equipment's hydraulic oils...both inside the plant and in our vehicles, forklifts, etc.

3. We recently created a new CR brochure. The paper used for the brochure went through a process of certification and was made with 25% recycled material.

4. We developed a Waste Heat Recovery plan. This plan is designed to transfer the heat generated by our ovens to heat the water for our wash line in our powder coating department.

We are working toward heating our front office (approx. 15,000 sq. ft) as well, cutting our gas costs even further. We will report on the progress of this initiative in newsletters to come.

5. To meet RoHS compliance guidelines, we have switched from Hexavalent to Trivalent coatings as our company standard.
